Build a modern backyard swing set with the same plans we used for our own family—designed for real life, tested with three young kids, and still one of the most-used things in our yard a year later.
This downloadable PDF is designed to help take the guesswork out of planning by giving you the exact layout, measurements, material guidance, and step-by-step process we followed during our build.
Includes 12 pages of detailed plans + lessons learned after one year of use.
Plan it: Materials list, exact measurements, swing spacing, and lumber selection tips.
Build it: Step-by-step building process, hardware placement guidance, and photos and diagrams.
Learn from our experience: Outdoor sealing recommendations and lessons learned after one year of use.
These plans are best for DIYers who are comfortable using basic tools and ready to tackle a larger weekend project. Plan for approximately one to two weekends with two adults.
You'll get the measurements, materials guidance, and step-by-step process we followed to build our own backyard swing set—plus the lessons we'd want to know before starting again.
These plans are provided for informational purposes only and are intended for personal residential use. They are not engineer-certified. Purchasers assume full responsibility for construction quality, anchoring method, material selection, code compliance, and safe use of the finished structure.
Always inspect materials and hardware before use, call 811 before digging, follow local building codes, and supervise children during use. Seller is not liable for injury, property damage, or misuse resulting from construction or use of these plans.
